A Haunting We Will Go

The wind was ripping thru the night,
The trees were moaning with delight.
Ne'er again we'll see the light.....
A Haunting we will go.

Amidst the torrential rains there came,
A silence sudden, weighed with pain,
scream if you must, but all in vain.....
A Haunting we will go.

They say Death comes but once in Life;
After endless days, filled with strife.
I taste the blade of this rusted knife....
A Haunting we will go.

So sweet the sound of utter fright,
Beware the Moon, its' tainted light.
Shadows following in the night....
A Haunting we will go.

Thunder roared, and lightening blazed,
Fog rolled in with a thickening haze,
Leaving you frightened, confused, and dazed.....
A Haunting we will go.

Death comes more than once, you see;
The whispering sounds of untold glee.
The kiss of the blade, setting you free......
A Haunting we will go.

First comes fear, a little Death,
Then the taking of Lifes last breath;
Ne'er attaining eternal rest.......
A Haunting we will go.

The wind was ripping thru the night.
The trees were moaning with delight.
Ne'er again we'll see the light.....
A Haunting we will go.

S@n October 23, 2007 at 5:37 PM

:O speechless :P lol it was pretty good though, i just like the romantic and sad ones better :D

chardonnay October 23, 2007 at 7:23 PM

My first try at a Hallowe'enish poem....

and just what exactly are you thinking?????LOL!!!!

S@n October 24, 2007 at 7:38 AM

Well the "haunting" lol that's what I am thinking, wondering, and trying to figure out :D lol

even if you are not using that famous "cut up" technic (the one Leah uses)

this poem is really deep and restless as Michael said, and it just make you think about stuff :P you know what kind of stuff:P I'm sure you know:P lol lol

Or maybe it's just my little mind that keeps travelling everywhere:P

chardonnay October 24, 2007 at 9:15 AM

LOL!!!

Maybe the poems restlessness has gotten to you. =)

Leah October 24, 2007 at 10:53 AM

Nice poem - you should try to illustrate it in the Sims; I think you could. All you need is some fantasy and creativity; and you've got plenty of both!

chardonnay October 24, 2007 at 5:10 PM

Hmmm....Illustratrd poetry. One more step closer to childrens stories. LOL!!!!

thewynd October 26, 2007 at 7:58 PM

I loved this! Especially the references to the blade. I can visualize exactly what your words describe!

I guess you could illustrate it but I think the imagination does the best job in this case.

Great poem Melissa!

Thanks Gayl!

I am so glad you liked it. I wasn't sure if I could get the 'flavor' to come thru, because I was being elusive. Glad it did!!!!

S.B. October 27, 2007 at 9:21 AM

REally beautiful,gorgeous imagery -- I agree with Gayl, I love the reference to the blade. But the way you invoke sound is fantastic!

There's a wistful quality here, too, that sort of sighs through the fright. Wonderful work, as always!

chardonnay October 27, 2007 at 11:22 AM

I so love your comments! 'Sighing through the fright'.

I think you would be very good at writing poetry yourself.

Thank you yet again! I am glad you enjoyed this.

Ooooo! I did not get to this one last night, I started in reverse order from your Poem list! :D

AWESOME! FABULOUS! Stephen King, eat your heart out! WOW! It was even more eerie by the 'sing-song' rhythm of the poem! :wub:

Oh man, I wish you woul make this a story! BRAVO! BRAVO!

Chardonnay, you are deep my friend! No doubt about that! :wub:

chardonnay February 15, 2008 at 10:38 PM

Thank You Zayury!!! I am so glad you enjoyed this one!!!

I had a lot of fun writing it!!

I keep telling everyone, my writing is based on my dreams, and I am taking the Stephen King's Crash course to writing...LOL!!!

Of course there's not really such a thing....but you never know what's going to 'haunt' you 'til it's written....

LOL! That was terrific! It has all the markings for easily becoming a classic! Like one of my favorites:

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men...

Yours was a perfect poem for Halloween! It was so eerie! Jack, the Pumpkin King, would probably love it!!! :)

chardonnay June 29, 2008 at 7:53 AM

Thanks Tammy! A classic Hmmm...

I really appreciate your kind words! They mean a lot to me!

But who authored the poem you quoted, and what's the rest of it?

Colliegirl June 29, 2008 at 9:46 PM

It's actually a poem referring to the mystery of faery folk, but I've seen that particular phrase used for different purposes... fear of the unknown! :)

The author was William Allingham. I found a copy of it in an old poetry book I bought for a quarter. It was titled, The Singing World.

Here's the poem (it's pretty lengthy!):

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather!

Down along the rocky shore
Some make their home,
They live on crispy pancakes
Of yellow tide-foam;
Some in the reeds
Of the black mountain lake,
With frogs for their watch dogs,
All night awake.

High on the hilltop
The old King sits;
He is now so old and gray,
He's nigh lost his wits.
With a bridge of white mist
Columbkill he crosses
On his stately journeys
From Slieveleague to Rosses;
Or going up with music
On cold, starry nights,
To sup with the Queen
Of the gay Northern Lights.
They stole little Bridget
For seven years long;
When she came down again
Her friends were all gone.
They took her lightly back,
Between the night and morrow,
They thought that she was fast asleep,
But she was dead with sorrow.
They have kept her ever since
Deep within the lake,
On a bed of flag leaves,
Watching till she wake.

By the craggy hillside,
Through the mosses bare,
They have planted thorn trees
For pleasure here and there.
Is any man so daring
As dig them up in spite,
He shall find their sharpest thorns
In his bed at night.

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather!

I've always been a sucker for that kind of poetry. Another favorite of mine is:
An' the Gobble-uns'll git you
Ef you Don't Watch Out! :)

Thanks Tammy, I really appreciate this! This was a great poem! This one looks to be Scottish in origin. And quite possibly their version of Snow White...LOL! It's close....LOL!

I'll see if I can find the opther one...LOL!!

Colliegirl June 30, 2008 at 5:58 PM

The other one will be titled: Little Orphant Annie. It has Four goodly sized verses, and it was written by, James Whitcomb Riley. It was really cute! :D

I live out in the country, where there are no street lights, and it has always been easy for me to imagine that there may be actually goblins hiding out there; not to mention, ghosts, in the small cemetery that is just around the corner from my house! It's got one of those spooky looking white-lady statues situated up high on a pedestal, right in the middle of it! She looks really freaky at night, especially when there's a full moon! Woo-oo-oooo! :D

chardonnay June 30, 2008 at 8:19 PM

Heheheheh!! I know exactly what you mean. LOL!! I grew up in the country too. NO street lights means it gets even darker than anyone realizes. People from the city just don't understand!

And we had a graveyard not too far away also...withlots and lots of tombstones.......big, spooky, scary, tall, did I mention spooky?

Colliegirl June 30, 2008 at 8:33 PM

Yeah. Cemeteries scare me a lot too. I try my best not to look in that direction whenever I have to walk that way at night. LOL! I'm such a scaredy cat! It's just a small family plot set in the midst of the park... most of them were just babies, or barely a year old. They died of scarlet or yellow fever. Poor things...

The real cememtery is a little bit further down the road, the other way... I don't go there at night either! LOL!

It's really spooky there! Lots of old graves and it's surrounded by woods. There's also wild peacocks roaming all over the place and in the grove nearby. They sound really eerie at evening time. You can hear their birdcall at least a mile away.

My father's side of the family is mostly buried there...

S@n October 27, 2008 at 10:56 AM
